PLEASE USE THE LINKS POSTED BELOW TO DOWNLOAD THE EDITOR OF YOUR CHOICE
Places Bar Editors are utilities for Windows that allow you to customize the "Places Bar" that appears on the left side of the Open and Save dialogs in most applications.
The Places Bar is a set of shortcuts to commonly-used folders, but wouldn't it be more useful if you could determine what "commonly used" means for yourself, instead of letting Microsoft define it for you? That's where a Places Bar Editor comes in. It lets you, the user, decide what shortcuts go in the bar, depending on what directories you most usually copy or move items to. Here are three freeware editors that work very well. Which one you choose is a matter of taste. These apps do not run in the systray. Once you edit your Places Bar, they turn off, using no resources.
Flexigen Shell Places Bar. An executable you install allows you to edit the Places Bar and has a nice modern interface -possibly too much for the tiny task it's asked to do. (rather like using Photoshop for what could be drawn on a napkin.) Freeware -Windows 2000, XP 2003, Vista. [link]
MelloWare Places Bar Editor Freeware -Windows All , another executable, will also edit the Office Places Bar. It's free but does rather shamelessly beg (not really nag) you for a contribution. Since it's an app that is seldom used, once your Places Bar preferences are set, it's not a big hassle. [link]
MaDdog Places Bar Editor (the one I use and the one in the screenshot) is a tiny portable app (37kb) that does the job nicely with a minimal interface and requires no install. [link] ` ` NEW! Edit Your Places Bar Without An App!
If you're like me and enjoy using Regedit for system tweaks, fellow deviant =VishalGupta[link] has posted some tutorials on his AskVG website that will walk you through the steps neccesary to edit your Windows Places Bar and your Windows Office Bar through the Windows registry! Check them out here:
Let us know, Jason. You seem to be the only person trying out these older apps on 7. ` ` ` You know, you'd think Microsoft would include an easy option to edit your copy to/ move to places in Win 7. It's something people have been bitching about for like 8 years now, lol!
`
Yeah, I guess it helps to remember things like that.
`
Thanx for checking on it, Jason.
